The Friday 56 - Week 212

Welcome to Week 212!

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it) that grab you.
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post to the Linky at Freda's Voice. Add the post url, not your blog url. It's that simple.

It finally arrived! The book that fans have been clamoring for over the last several decades: the release of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Pioneer Girl manuscript, the basis for her famous Little House books.

This annotated autobiography is edited by Pamela Smith Hill, author of Laura Ingalls Wilder: A Writer's Life. Since page 56 was just a map, this excerpt is from page 156.

14. Ma was afraid. In By the Shores of Silver Lake, Wilder used Ma's fear to reinforce the unspoken conflict between her parents and their views of the American West: "[Ma] did not say anything because nothing she could say would make any difference. Bu Laura knew Ma had never wanted to leave Plum Creek and did not like to be here now" (p.66).

It's great to find a series that resonates--one where you anxiously await the next installment. Happy reading!

I haven't heard of this MS but it sounds wonderful for Ingalls fans. I read one or two books as a child and they didn't do anything for me.

Sounds interesting! I haven't read the Little House books, but it sounds like this book would make them much more meaningful to readers.
My Friday post features A DARK & STORMY KNIGHT.

I devoured all the Little House books as a child and this sounds so interesting. I'd love to get a deeper understanding of all that was going on.

Thanks for visiting, everyone. I appreciate the comments.

Bea, I didn't enjoy the books as a child either. I was in my early 20's before I read them. Then I began learning more about the real life of Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Freda, I loved the show. It's how I was introduced to Laura's world. My love of the books came much later.

Thanks again, everyone.
